Hey and welcome to Query Everything. Our podcast for Joticle. I am the CEO, Scott Wilson.  Thank you for joining us for our second podcast. It's a pleasure to be back in the seat here, doing something that I find very fun and very rewarding, because I love to explain what we're up to, and there is a lot. What I want to go over is the word query.

This is a word I have always thought was a common word that everybody knew.  Maybe because I've been in database work for over 20 years, I lost sight of the fact that not many people might know, what that word meant.  So I was astonished to find out when we named the company and came up with our slogan, just how many people didn't know what query was.

So that's the point of this podcast is to get behind the word query and clear up all the air that surrounds it. Then also understand why we use it within our organization. Going back to the original concept of Joticle, is that those jots were us writing down questions. So when you, if we go back to the last podcast, Joticle is basically taking the word, jot and article and slamming it back together, makes the word Joticle , in that process, we we're jotting things and in the form of questions.

Question everything happens to be taken already as a slogan. So that was off the table having a background in database, it was just a word that came naturally to me. And that's what we were doing. We were literally querying everything and it started out with me focused on learning a programming language. But once, Jeff and I had gotten together, we started talking about, you know, we could go down the road with golf.

Heck, we can go down the road with zoology. We can go down the road with masonry, anything that we wanted to with this architecture, once we nailed down exactly what we were trying to do,  so kept coming back to this word query and it's has stuck since we've actually tried moving away from it once, and it just felt so unnatural saying things like "always on topic". Well, we're always querying everything, and that's what we do.  So if you really want to break down the word at its basic, yes, it is about asking a question, but usually in part of where the passion of Joticle is,  we're questioning accuracy because there's so much misinformation out there and all the forums I was diving into to find out information in all the areas I was doing research, there was a lot of opinion, more so, then there was good, critical thinking going on.  That lack of critical thinking replaced by opinion was a real turnoff , so that part of query makes sense.  What we're very passionate about finding accuracy.

The idea here was to get as much information that's been vetted into something that fits in your mobile phone that you can use to immerse yourself, dive into a topic, just become passionate about it without having to fight through all the clutter and all the noise out there.

That's the pain that we take on. We deal with all sorts of suggestions and all sorts of , ugly data , that we've gone through and ugly information.  We really try to bring the best of breed , into what we bundle and aggregate into a learning pod. So, you know, going back some entomology of, of an entomology is another learning pod we have, see, we query everything.

The  basis of the word query goes back to the 1500s, Latin quaere. I'm not Latin, so I can't pronounce it. Right. , but what it did was it was involving the seeking something just to, to look for, to strive for something seeking to learn.

In modern usage outside of the computer world, the database world more specifically query is the same as question in the, in the database world. You don't say I'm going to write a question. You say, I'm going to go write a query, but in the outside of that world, those two words are interchangeable. You can use query or question. They mean the same thing. So you're good there. So it's a really universal functioning word for what we do. And because we are doing every kind of topic under the sun, it makes sense that query everything is our slogan. That's what query means, that's the end of that. There's not really much of a deeper conversation. , but we, it has been brought to our attention enough to actually want to clear that up.
